Question 1: Why are you so intrigued by history? Was it just to get a job or because you actually like to teach about the past?

I have always enjoyed learning about history; it was my favorite subject when I was in school. I love stories and learning about new things, so history is a subject that just fit for me. I enjoy teaching history because it allows me to share with others something I really enjoy.

Question 2: Did you ever teach any other subjects at any other schools? When did you start teaching?

I started teaching in 2012, and BSM is the only place where I have taught. My first year teaching at BSM, I taught both 8th grade and 7th grade History, but for the past three years I’ve only taught 7th graders.

Question 3: What is your favorite part of history to teach?

I really enjoy teaching about the events that led to the Revolutionary War and the Revolutionary War itself, which are extremely critical points in U.S. history.

Question 4: What do you like about being a teacher at BSM?

The students and the teachers are what make BSM special for me. The students at BSM are respectful, kind, and hard-working, and they help to make my job as a teacher so enjoyable and memorable. The other junior high teachers are some of the greatest teachers I have met, and I consider myself fortunate to be able to work with them.

Question 5: What is your favorite pastime? Do you like reading, games, TV, etc.?

I enjoy reading. I just recently read the final book of the Divergent series, and I thought it was a great series. I also enjoy doing activities with my friends and family, whether it’s watching movies, playing board games, or trying new restaurants.

Question 6: What’s something not many of the students know about you?

I play the piano. Growing up, I took piano lessons for 14+ years. I don’t like playing in front of other people, but I really enjoy playing on my own.

Question 7: What is your favorite food or restaurant?

My favorite food would probably be a good steak, but that I can make myself. I don’t know that I have a favorite restaurant, but when I go out to eat, I’m always up for going to Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant – I love spicy food.

Question 8: What is your favorite junior high trip to take?

My favorite trip is the Boston trip. Boston is such an important city in U.S. history because so much happened there. It’s a fun trip to go on, and such a cool city to visit.

Question 9: What is the weirdest thing you have ever taught or done at school?

When I was student teaching I subbed for the math teacher one day; I had to teach an Algebra lesson – that was definitely outside of my comfort zone, and it took a bit for me to recall many of the different rules/properties in math.

Question 10: Were you born in Minnesota?

I was born in Minnesota. I grew up living in Plymouth and currently live in Wayzata.

Question 11: What is your favorite TV show?

I love watching old TV shows – “I Love Lucy,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “ Bewitched;” however, my all-time favorite show is “Friends.”

Question 12: What did you like to do as a kid?

I was pretty studious as a kid. I wasn’t into many sports, but I enjoyed doing then what I enjoy doing now: reading, being with my friends, being with my family, seeing movies, etc.
